Abjadiyah's mission is to enrich the lives of children, adults & families by fostering a meaningful connection to the Arabic language through linguistic, artistic and cultural activities- all within a welcoming and inclusive environment that celebrates heritage and nurtures identity.
Founded in 2006, Abjadiyah - meaning "alphabets" in Arabic, is a non-profit, independent community based educational organization committed to preserving Arabic as a living language.
Established to connect bridges and to empower future generations, Abjadiyah provides all learners with a strong foundation in Arabic language and a strong exposure to its rich heritage, culture and art; ensuring they step into life with confidence and connection to their roots.
Today, Abjadiyah stands at the forefront of Arabic language education, offering a groundbreaking, story-based curriculum and pedagogy that integrates characters and activities into every lesson. Through collaborative, interactive, and hands-on learning, students develop reading, writing, and speaking skills. Spanning 10 instructional levels, our program is designed to meet the diverse learners in the 21st century while nurturing creativity and cultural connection and a deep love for the Arabic language.
Abjadiyah was founded in 2006 by Norma Mansour-Najjar, a Lebanese architect and devoted mother living in the United States, who set out on a heartfelt mission: to raise her two American-born children with a deep connection to the richness of the Arabic language and culture. Seeing how quickly Arabic was disappearing among first-generation Arab-Americans, she was determined to keep it alive; not just in her home, but in her community.
Driven by her passion and supported by educator Dr. Rose Hawi, Norma designed a unique, story-based curriculum that made Arabic accessible, engaging, and relevant for children of all backgrounds. Drawing on her skills as an architect, she built an educational model grounded in creativity, collaboration, and cultural pride.
Today, Abjadiyah is a nonprofit organization at the forefront of Arabic language education, helping families preserve their heritage and give their children the gift of language.
